What Iron Saturation measures

Iron saturation is the share of the iron-carrying protein transferrin that is actually carrying iron.

If your Iron Saturation is low

Iron saturation below the range is commonly associated with low iron stores or inflammation.

Commonly associated with

Worth asking your clinician: Whether ferritin and a CBC clarify it.

If your Iron Saturation is high

Iron saturation above the range is commonly associated with iron overload or recent supplements; it is read with ferritin.

Commonly associated with

Worth asking your clinician: Whether ferritin is also high and whether a repeat fasting sample is useful.
